We want to teach you how to make simple furniture by sharing skills and techniques that will help you to tackle your own DIY projects around the home to enhance you core skills and save you money.
We know it can feel daunting knowing how started in woodworking – whether its understanding where to start or what tools you need to buy, or or even how to implement your basic skills to buy wood plan and make your own furniture can feel a little intimidating.
Which is why we designed our introductory Beginner courses to give you the skills foundation in hand tool woodworking needed to so you have the confidence to take on more projects around the home. Once you have the baics covered, our build your own project courses help you to build on these foundations and immerse yourself futher into more complex woodworking and joinery techniques. We also offer a range of specialist courses and intermediate woodworking courses.
Beginners Course
Our introductory Beginner courses give you the skills foundation in hand tool woodworking needed to give you the confidence to take on more projects around the home.
Every woodworker started where you are, but by taking your first step you will benefit from in depth tuition from an experienced cabinet maker which is why our courses have been awarded a Gold certificate for 5 star reviews by CraftCourses.com

Project Course
Our Project course is the perfect follow on to our beginner course. It allows you to plan and make your own piece of furniture with our guidance and tutelage.
If you have completed one of our beginner courses or think you have a basic understanding of how to accurately use hand tools and understand the fundamentals of working with wood, you can build your own course around a project you want to undertake. Create a Memory Chest for couples
Throughout the year we offer courses for couples aimed at working together on a shared project. Perfect as a wedding or anniversary gift, over 2 days you will both work together to build a memory chest - something that will last you both forever and be filled over the years with a lifetime of memories.

Prices start from £450 which covers 2 days of tuition, timber and plenty of tea, coffee and biscuits!
Box making courses
If you have a little experience in woodworking or have taken part in one of my beginner courses, a box making course gives you a bit more in depth tuition in the finer points of box making.
Box making is a perfect practice for larger woodworking projects and these intermediate courses which run throughout the year give you an insight into more specialist tools and using a wider range of hardwood timbers. This is a 2 day course and you will have access to a range of hardwood timbers to choose from to make you small keepsake box. You will get to design and plan what joinery you will use then We will work together to make and finish your box.

Our location
The ANH Artisan studios are based at Harehope Quarry one the outskirts of Frosterley in Weardale, County Durham.
Harehope quarry is beautiful local wildlife Site with areas of wet woodland, species-rich limestone, grassland and ponds and rivers. This location gives our courses the perfect relaxing and peacful backdrop in which to immerse yourself in you woodworking journey.
Harehope Quarry also offers a holiday cottage on site should you need accomodationwhich can be booked by visiting the Harehope Quarry website (subject to availability). There are also a number of local holiday cottages to book in the wider Weardale area.

Should ANH Artisan Furniture Makers need to cancel the course you will receive a full refund of the fee you have paid however we operate a strict cancellation policy whereby if you cancel your place within 4 weeks of the course date you will not be offered a refund, you may however be offered an alternative course date subject to availability.
